FIRE Letters to Washington Municipalities, October 29, 2026
On Oct. 29, 2026, FIRE wrote to 20 Washington state cities about unconstitutional provisions in their public comment policies. The letters reminded each governing body that they lack authority to restrict the content of commenters’ speech unless those restrictions are viewpoint-neutral and reasonable. As each city maintains provisions that infringe its citizens’ First Amendment rights, FIRE called on the cities to revise their policies.
