Case Overview

Political activist Jared Taylor was scheduled to speak at Salisbury University on March 9, 2026 at an event organized by an outside, non-student group. But on March 6, after drawing the ire of students who characterized Taylor as a white supremacist, Salisbury announced it was postponing the event “based on public safety considerations.” On March 17, 2026, FIRE wrote Salisbury, explaining that postponing an expressive event to satiate backlash was unconstitutional viewpoint discrimination and did not make the campus safer. We urged Salisbury to allow the hosts to reschedule and, going forward, make bona fide efforts to protect free speech and public safety by allowing expressive events to go forward.
