On April 27, 2026, Point Park University’s Student Government Association voted against officially recognizing a Turning Point USA chapter. Reporting and circumstances suggest the decision was based on the group’s viewpoint, including repeated discussions about the political views of the chapter’s advisor as well as TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk. On May 12, FIRE wrote to the university and SGA, emphasizing that PPU’s commitment to free expression requires SGA employ viewpoint-neutral criteria for student organization recognition. On May 27, PPU notified us that it “ intends to work with SGA to educate its leadership on the University’s recognition standards and deliberative expectations.”
