Case Overview

On March 8, 2026, after two ISIS supporters were arrested for attempted terror attacks on a New York City protest, the Georgetown University College Republicans posted to X, “Let’s be honest: Muslims have no place in American society. Their religion is incompatible with our Christian nation.” The group later deleted the post and stated it intended to criticize Sharia law. On March 11, Georgetown condemned the statement and announced it would conduct a review. On March 23, FIRE wrote Georgetown, explaining that even expression deemed offensive or hateful is protected by the university’s own free speech policies, and urging the administration to end its investigation and decline to impose discipline.
