Johns Hopkins University: Students Erase Pro-Life Chalk Messages
Cases
Johns Hopkins University
Case Overview
In early March, Voices for Life student members at Johns Hopkins University chalked their pro-life views on university sidewalks approved for chalking. Other students took offense to the messages and, within two hours, coordinated erasure of the messages. On May 22, FIRE wrote the university, calling on it to address the destruction of VFL’s chalk messages by taking steps to educate its students about the principles of expressive freedom and ensuring that future episodes of vigilante censorship will be investigated and addressed.
